Also mastodon is federated. If you find instances that are hosting actual cp, report them to the people running your instance. They can cut that instance out of your life entirely by banning it. And if they won’t you can move.
A lot of ppl banned bofa.lol for some admittedly awful trolling – I’d be willing to bet they’d do the same for cp. Despite what ppl on here say, most of us are disgusted by cp and would ban it asap once we knew about it.
There are lots of small and safe instances, and especially some run by trans women.
The only real downside to mastodon in my experience is that there’s a lot of meta about mastodon. There’s been some drama with the head developer not listening to marginalized groups, but at least you can talk to the guy (for now)
There’s been some talk of creating an interoperable fork of the code that is run in a more democratic way, where the users get to vote on features, etc. but I haven’t seen it talked about recently.
